Create a Lake Michigan beach stone pendant or ring. Students will learn the basic skills in design, bezel making, soldering and stone setting to create your one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. All skill levels are welcome. No experience is necessary. Bring your good eye/hand coordination & attention to detail. Every student will complete their jewelry in the class and take it home. A detailed class handout is provided.
Class attendees should plan to purchase a kit from the instructor at the class. The class kit costs are $35 for pendants and $45 for rings.
Folks who can bring in their own stone (requires previous Metalsmithing experience and confident soldering skills) may require a higher cost if the stone they bring is larger than my average stone in the class kits.
Kits include: the stone, silver needed, and pendant bail or ring band.
Materials to bring:
• Drawing paper & sharp pencil
• Fine tip black sharpie
• Any glasses/magnification needed for close work
• Apron if available
• Please wear older clothes was much of this work is messy and some involves a mild acid

Meet Janet
Janet grew up in Columbus, Ohio spending summers in Leelanau at her grandparents cottage on Lake Leelanau. She grew up with art projects and summer rock collecting. She attended Lake Forest College, where she took her first silver jewelry construction workshop taught by students in a dorm basement. After graduating with a major in Mathematics and Physics she began a 38 year career in Information Technology. In 2004, while living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she began re-exploring her interest in Jewelry by creating space for a jewelers bench in her basement and investing in books and tools. She also started taking classes in Metal Techniques at the Milwaukee Area Technical School and with visiting artists. In 2016 she retired, and moved to Cedar near Sugar Loaf Mountain in August 2017. She now continues to learn new techniques by taking classes while creating and selling jewelry at local art shows and she teaches jewelry classes.
