Enter the world of Japan for 2 days! Eat with chopsticks, fold origami, and speak Japanese phrases.

 



This class introduces one to a glimpse of Japanese culture. Learn to speak and sing some Japanese, make traditional crafts from Japan, and eat Japanese food with chopsticks. You will participate in an authentic tea ceremony with Michelle Racich from Balanced Heart and eat vegetarian sushi rolls with delicious miso soup. Discover Japanese culture through food, play, and art.



This is a 2-day class for ages 9–13

Meet Karen Kirt

Karen Kirt has a MA in Education, Asian History & Japanese. She was an elementary teacher at an international school in Japan for four years, and also attended graduate school at Kumamoto University for almost two years. Karen recently visited Japan in 2025 for the Traverse City Sister City Goodwill Mission Exchange. Karen lives in Leelanau County and teaches 3rd & 4th grade at Leland Public School.
