REGISTEREscape the rush and embrace the beautiful Danish concept of Hygge.
Join us at the Old Art Building and celebrate the season of connection with a heartwarming evening dedicated to the people, pets, and memories we hold dear. Our February Hygge Night explores the theme of Love through the whimsical lens of mixed-media doll making.
Inspired by the evocative, textured work of French artist Cécile Perra, we will be crafting a small collection of "matchbox dolls." These tiny, tactile treasures serve as pocket-sized tributes to the heart, combining vintage charm with personal storytelling.
The Creative Process:
- Personal Portraits: The soul of your doll starts with a face. You are invited to bring small photos of loved ones—yourself, family, friends, or even cherished pets. If you’d prefer a more anonymous or symbolic approach, you can choose from a curated collection of face portraits provided by the instructor.
- A World in a Box: Using classic matchboxes as your base, you will build a miniature world. We will provide a rich assortment of trinkets, found ephemera, and collage elements to dress and decorate your figures.
- Mixed-Media Magic: Go beyond paper and glue with fabric scraps, acrylic paints, and tiny charms to evoke specific feelings of affection, nostalgia, and joy.
Why You’ll Love It:
This workshop is less about "fine art" and more about the feeling of the find. It’s a soulful, relaxing way to spend a February evening—tucked away from the cold, surrounded by art supplies and good company. You’ll leave with a set of miniature companions that capture the essence of what love means to you.
