Perfect for the opera novice and aficionado alike, Traverse City Opera invites you to enjoy beloved opera classics in their original language, accompanied by commentary and dramatic scenes performed in contemporary English.

Opera has endured for centuries for a very specific reason- it is vulnerable. In its vulnerability, it conveys the human experience in a way that is unlike any other art form. The music of opera and the voices that produce it are magnificent, unique vessels that are somehow able to communicate humanity’s deepest and most powerful emotions in a truly superhuman way. Traverse City Opera seeks to surprise audiences with all of the ways opera speaks within the contemporary world.

Song & Story Series

Presented in partnership with 4 community performance groups Manitou Winds, Traverse City Opera and The Stonefruit Collective, Song & Story will hold three unique concerts that marry spoken word and music in unique ways.

Instrumental repertoire will merge with poetry, Opera will offer the added context of political and social dialogue and a folk-band will retell a tale from classic literature. The TSO will also be offering a related "Masterworks in Miniature" for Leland Public School as a part of this series.
