Mary Fuscaldo – Pastel
Monday, July 23 – Tuesday, July 24
10 am – 3 pm

There is an instant gratification to applying pure pigment to paper. Designed for those new to the pastel medium or those who want to go to the next level. Using demonstrations and working with each class member, Mary will teach about the new pastels, underpainting, blending, toned paper and framing.

Specializing in pastel landscapes, Mary Fuscaldo earned her degree in Fine Arts from Drake University and has studied design, advanced drawing and advanced painting at Delta College and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. In addition, she has added to her repertoire by participating in workshops of accomplished artists Bill Hosner and Alan Flattmann in Michigan, abroad in France with artist friends, Scotland with Elizabeth Mowry and has mentored with Michael Chesley Johnson in Sedona, AZ.

Mary is an active member of the Traverse City art community and a resident of the nearby Leelanau Peninsula. She teaches pastel classes and workshops in Midland, MI, Traverse City, MI, Leland, MI, and Glen Arbor, Michigan. She is the past president of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, is a member of the Arizona Pastel Painters Association, the Sedona Art Center, the Pastel Society of America and on the faculty of The Art Center Traverse City. Gaining further inspiration through travel, Mary has enjoyed painting in the Southwest where they have a second home in Sedona, AZ, and overseas in Italy, Scotland and New Zealand, where she taught a pastel workshop in 2007.

Mary’s award winning art has been shown in numerous jury and solo exhibits and is currently represented by Main Street Gallery in Leland, MI, Somebody’s Gallery in Petoskey, MI, and Northwood Gallery in Midland, MI.  Her work is also available at her Leelanau Peninsula studio/gallery, where she teaches small classes and mentors. Her book “Look About You” was a northern Michigan best seller and a finalist for Book of the Year with the Great Lakes Booksellers Association. Her paintings have been published on the covers of The American Spoon Foods Catalogs and ForeWord Magazine. Mary’s originals are in private, public, college and corporate collections nationwide.
